The Event
The concept of a soapbox rally event is as follows. Run down a gradient on a piece of road where the surface is varied. As speed is reached the route will turn perhaps to off-road and then back again. One or more artificial yumps will be incorporated and with a little ingenuity a water splash could also feature. There could be high speed sections probably in excess of 30 mph and arduous twisty sections where driving skill and keeping up momentum will be paramount.
The course could vary from a few hundred yards to perhaps two miles if the right location can be found or could feature several tests (like rally special stages) and just attacked once. Competitors would probably get a practise and three runs after being ferried back to the start. Times could be added together or just the fastest time could count. Nothing is cast in stone. The event will be as good as people’s imagination and even more. A good first event would probably guarantee news television and could easily attract a crowd of two or three thousand, which would collect good money for a chosen charity and further increase the status of the event.
These are my ideas and I am aware that people may not want my ideas: I am happy with that as long as a good strong event takes place.
